Weight Check

Small update, and one with some "how are we doing?" in it (in my mind there's a difference between a "medical" update and an "emotions and state of mind" update).

Leo had a weight check today and he didn't gain in the past two weeks. And he's having big spit ups and a lot of them We are going to get some blood work done, an upcoming GI appointment, upping the calorie concentration in the formula, and starting some medicine for reflux. Many things like spit up consistency, poop frequency and consistency, and Leo's mood are still really good. So those don't seem to point to big issues. But we are hoping to get answers and it's stressful to not know.

The prayer request would be for Leo to gain weight, for us to get these spit ups under control, and for us to get answers as to why this is so difficult for him right now. Weight gain is something that many babies struggle with. It doesn't have to be serious. But, we want to make sure he's growing and developing and with Leo's background, it's easy for Brad and me to go to a worst case scenario. So the other prayer request here is just for peace for our household. Currently, I feel great peace in knowing that I am doing everything I can. So, there's literally no options for me, I have to trust God with the rest. But other days the voices of failure and that I'm not doing enough for Leo are really loud. It's an emotional rollercoaster. But, honestly, I can really say with certainty that we know that we are caring for Leo in the best way we know how and God's got him. Again, that's true for all of us, isn't it? God has used Leo to teach us about how God cares for us.

We continue to be thankful for the medical care Leo receives. We are in good human hands. Also thankful that Leo tried some pureed food on Friday! He didn't try much, but we tried it with OT. He seemed to like it and she made the comment that she saw "good oral motor skills." That's a praise and a reason to celebrate. Another praise is Leo was in nursery on Sunday for the first time and did great. He also continues to sleep pretty well. And he's eating and pooping a good amount.

I feel a bit silly asking for so much prayer about weight gain. In many contexts, weight gain is not a very serious issue. But we just want answers. And I'd like to give my condolences and my applause to anyone who has experience with waiting for answers in any medical situation for yourself or a family member. It is not fun. But we got this. No. God's got us.
